get rid of unnecessary possessions

So I forgot to mention in a previous entry that my housemates in my new apartment are international students. Since they plan on moving back home after college, and don’t want to take a bunch of crap back with them, they keep their belongings to a minimum here in the U.S.! So it makes my clutter feel 5 times as bad. The looks on my housemates’ faces as I moved in were ones of surprise as they watched me bring load after load of junk up the stairs, and I could tell that they were just wondering where in the world I would put all of this crap! But I think this situation is positive in two ways: my struggling with all of this clutter provides the housemates with free entertainment, while I am motivated to get rid of it for my own sanity.

Sold 4 Books on Amazon today!

Doesn’t help that I just bought textbooks for this semester, so I am basically just replacing one book with another, but these were inevitable purchases, so I consider this a good step. I know that I’ll be able to sell the books that I just bought once the semester is done, so it just gives me something else to look forward to!

So I moved into a new apartment. It’s a temporary thing, just a semester. However, I’ve come to the realization (once again) that I have a bunch of crap! I seriously do not know what to do with all of it. It has taken an entire weekend to simply organize this stuff so I can see the floor of my bedroom! And this is just the stuff that I have with me. I’ve got 21 years worth of crap at my parents’ place. We’ve moved quite a few times, and we seriously are just moving junk around. Every time I open a box, I find stuff that I totally forgot that I had. So now I am making it my goal for this semester to sell books on Amazon and give other crap away to Goodwill. Whatever I don’t get rid of will just have to come with me when I move out in 4 months :\ It would be nice to take the time to sell everything on eBay or something like that, but I don’t have anything of really significant value that I want to sell. So after eBay’s commission, gas to the post office, etc., it just would not be worth the little amount of money that I would get. Plus, I work 3 part-time jobs and go to school full time, so I don’t exactly have loads of time to list all of it. So it’s much easier just to round it all up and take it to Goodwill. We’ll see how it goes.

Listed 15 books on Amazon today. If they don’t sell by the end of the semester, they’ll go to Goodwill.
