walk of all walks

Sunday morning before bagels, I went on the walk of all walks. According to google maps, I walked approximately 6.3 miles. It started off as my usual loop through the elementary schools, but as I neared Joppa Road, I couldn’t help but feel drawn to the Beltway underpass looming just down the road. I then crossed the street into this cute little neighborhood I remember Mr. Petrnotail cutting through once. Pretty soon, I came upon the other side of my street, apparently it had been cut in half when the Baltimore Beltway was built. I was amazed to discover this whole stretch of street and wanted to see where it led. After walking about a mile, it went from an immaculate suburban road dotted with picturesque homes to a narrow and winding street that dumped out on Cromwell Bridge Road. I already couldn’t believe I had walked that far. I decided, rather than turning back the way I came, to make a right on Cromwell Bridge Road and meet up with Satyr Hill Road just down the street. Well, turns out it wasn’t just down the street… So, I jog-walked as fast I could without getting hit by the cars speeding down the narrow road. Finally, I got to Satyr Hill and sat for a bit to rest. As I hadn’t planned such a long walk and had no water, I shook some of yesterday’s rain off some plants and patted my neck down to keep cool. I then encountered a teenaged boy jogging on Satyr Hill who hissed at me as I passed. Also, a very large, very recently alive deer, bruised on the side of the road. I finally made my way back home about 2 hours and 15 minutes after leaving. Everyone was up and ready for bagels! Not a bad way to pass the time. Lots of photos taken, thus completing this goal.

in lieu of a photograph, part I

My camera battery is dead and the charger is MIA, so instead of a photograph, I will share the baller playlist off Mr. Petrnotail’s ipod I made this morning for the walk. It was fun to use hubby’s and put on songs I might not listen to from mine. It’s a longer playlist, so stay tuned for part II tomorrow. Beware the parenthetical, I am ramble.

1. Beautiful Life, Ace of Base

2. Come See the Duck, Deerhoof (Download immediately and be prepared to air-drum)

3. Unbelievable, EMF

4. Kommissar, Falco (Mr. Pet only has the german Falco albums. He really loves Falco. I love him.)

5. Time to Pretend, MGMT (I tried to jog for this entire song, but got way winded and only lasted about a verse and a chorus. I am sooooOOOOOoooo out of shape for a 98 pound weakling. Going to work on the endurance factor…)

6. I Can’t Go For That, Daryl Hall & John Oates. (Epiphany: Lyrically, it’s like an easy-listening version of Meatloaf’s hit song “I Would Do Anything for Love (But I won’t Do That)”, errr rather the Meatloaf is a rock-n-roll version of the Hall & Oates song, but either way, those are great songs and I couldn’t help but sing aloud with Daryl and John, dog-walkers and their strange stares be damned!)

7. Put Some Keys On That, Lil’ Wayne. (Can we talk about just how much I adore this man? I also rapped along with him “I am a vegetarian, man I only eat beats / Wear a lot of karats and I smoke the best greens / No beef in my grocery bag / just some Swishers and a whole buncha cans of Whoop-Ass…”)

8. Forgotten, Altered Images

9. Mr. Blue Sky, ELO. (Happy song as I passed the baseball field, noticing the sun was finally fully risen and the sky was in fact very very blue)

10. Rich Girl, Hall & Oates (Another epiphany: I have many epiphanies whilst listening to Hall & Oates.)

11. Goodbye Liza Jane, Bob Wills. (“Oh, how I love her, ain’t that a shame… Oh, how I love her, Goodbye Liza Jane…” Bob Wills was the soundtrack to last summer and it brought back happy memories. After the cool down stretching, I sat on one of our rocking lawn chairs and sunned myself while humming along and tapping my feet to the dixieland beat.)

29.

short walk round back, up regwood, around the circle, cut thru the park, back down oakleigh.

also passed the same man twice, walking his dog. he simply couldn’t enjoy the not so hot sunshine, the birds chirping, the grass growing, his cute dog’s waddles. no, no. he was glued to his blackberry THE ENTIRE TIME I SAW HIM. not even a friendly hello, goodmorning, or even a nod. just scrolling and clicking and brow furrowing.

I HATE YOU PEOPLE AND YOUR MINI LIFE SUCKERS YOU LUG AROUND. BREAKING NEWS: YOU’RE NOTTHAT IMPORTANT. no one will die if you don’t answer the phone every fucking time it rings. perhaps i am bristly lately from the bevy of people who try to order things from me at the store while on their phones. OICK. hang up and shop/drive/live!!!! apologies for the tirade, but seriously. I am a person, right in front of you, trying to provide you with prompt and accurate service, yet chatting with Muffy about what time to reschedule Tennis tomorrow so you can get your pedicure in somehow can’t wait?
