marathon weekend of merriment 1 week ago

friday, saw a show (weekends and wye oak!) with alicia and lisa. erik, nick, will and jackie were also there so we all hung out together. free beer and wine = not too too drunk, just enough.

saturday we went house-hunting and found something perfect. it started snowing so we had to cut the day short, but we’re looking to the numbers now of the one we did like. we also went to the bel loc diner which is so kitschy cute quaint baltimore, but my food was tewwible. my fault for ordering a salad, I guess.
In the afternoon, Hubby and I sat around and were cozy and enjoyed the snow.
Around 8, Nick drove everyone in his Jeep to come pick me up in the snow since I didn’t have a ride to ASF2. Once we got there, we still had to wait around but not too long. The night was so much fun. No bands really stood out, just a miasma of gnarliness. Thrushes, who opened, were awesome. Sick Weapons was most fun. My regular fave band that was played was Lands and Peoples but the guy running their sound fucked shit up so it wasn’t their best show, but def good. alicia and i got right squiffy on vodka drinks and danced right up front for the last three bands (yup we were those girls) before rallying everyone to go home a bit earyl—1:40. We all trecked back to Will’s and I had sobered up so I drove Alicia home and crashed there.

Next morn Ali and I slowly slowly got up and readied ourselves and made way to bagels. We had grand plans to drink wine with bagels, but once we got to rite aid and bought cans to pour it in, we were feeling like shit. Hangover had crept up. At bagels, no one could finish anything, so I’m glad I got the hangover special: plain bagel with butter. Then hung out with Hubby most of the day, talking over house stuff. We went grocery shopping and got a buttload of stuff. wee!

all in all, a jam-packed yet amazingly wonderful weekend.

By ordering full-on cocktails at the bars instead of just beer, beer, beer. And it’s working out well. Hubby has joined me. He’s discovered a new favorite: the vodka gimlet.

the teen weekend of august 5 months ago

Saturday night after work, Hubby dropped me off at Sblum’s house and we watched the end of Virgin Suicides together and then went to get italian ice at The Cow. I ad coconut almond chip and she had pistachio slash mint choco chip. Yums! After getting back to Sblum’s we went up to her room and checked out the free fabric A had given her. We picked a black and white striped fabric to make into a skirt—well, for Sarah to make into a skirt, as I do NOT sew, but will give plenty of opinions and suggestions. Sblum cut the fabric into strips and then sewed together to make a chevron pattern out of it. It took shape into a pencil skirt. A racing stripe of red plaid was added down the back. And a long pink zipper! Coolest skirt ever. And while she was sewing and sewing hard, a jahna sat on the floor and made some art! Five pieces!

We then decided to head down to the city, my place! Played scrabble, made french fries and ate then the french fries, watched magnolia, and drank an bottle of bailey’s. then frolicked on the roof of the normandie (apartment building across the street) spying on streetwalkers and 3 a.m. bikers alike. Returned home, watched The State, and then Hubby came home about 5 a.m. The three of us drank more while watching various classic videos such as Fuck You, Baltimore, Farting Preacher (our abs burned the next day from laughing so hard and the preacher was to blame), Flea Market Montgomery and its NWA version, and The Noam Chomsky Show and drunk jeff goldblum. We went to bed sometime around 6ish, 7ish and got up at 10 for bagels.

Bagels were stellar. It started out as the trio, Hubby, Sblum and I, but we were soon joined by ginger goddess Alicia Green, with Nathan and Megan close behind, followed by David and H. As our table swelled, the groups at the other tables expressed amazement at how we all fit comfortably around a table meant for four at the most. It was fun! We stayed extra-long and good convos were had by all. Hubby and I ran Sblum up to her place to get her instruments and then dropped her at band practice with David and Nathan and moseyed on home. Hubby went to bed straightaway, but I called H and we decided to take a long walk around the Village and up to Guilford. Hot, invigorating walk!

Came home, made movie plans with Corey, backed out of movie plans with Corey. Sblum called to pickup the books I was giving away when she came back into the Village after practice to get her car. Ran into Chipping on the sidewalk and we talked for a long time about work. He very stressied, sad face. Hubby woke up around 9, we went to the bank to deposit paychexxx and got Taco Bell. I actually tried something new—a gordita with rice. It was excellente, I may have a new favorite. They did fuck up my nachos by putting rice on them instead of guac (GASP) but at least they left the meat off. That taco bell is in an area with a lot of Hindis and they are usually pretty good about getting the no meat thing right. The same cannot be said for other bells. I will take what I can get, but was very sad there was no guac.

Hubby and I watched the last 3 eps of Mad Men Season 2 he hadn’t seen and went to bed. Exhausting weekend, totally awesome! ...Except for friday night when I watched all the whales being SLAUGHTERED on Whale Wars and cried for two hours slash got into huge fight with hubby about why he isn’t a vegetarian. I tried to make myself feel better about the situation with my art on saturday—see figure 1a, above. I was trying to send the poor things good vibes. I hope it worked dot dot dot.

We are poor, but making the most of it. free shows will return to zodiac soon, so that’s good for purse.

summer aught nine: so far 5 months ago
  • 2 virginia vacations
  • First summertime trip to Ocean City, MD! And what fun!
  • 2 very successful bridal showers for Hubby’s brother’s future wife planned, executed and talked about for days in a good way
  • Took away paid lunches and most paid holidays at work, but at least I have a job
  • Intermittent bageling, but the boy is back! And found out he goes to my former college, with the same major. Coinkydink! I am supposed to read some of his work.
  • No sick days taken!
  • No walking in the mornings because my walking partner got a boyfriend and would prefer to sex him up in the a.m. rather than walk with me. But, young love will soon turn to boredom and we’ll be back in business. I may try venturing on my own tomorrow…
  • Hot, hot, hot
  • Zodiac, the mostly free show venue we like, has been mostly closed all summer, except for Whartscape’s dance party, which was soooo much fun, so haven’t seen a lot of shows.
  • Finally did a joint account with Hubby. Financial chaos seems to be sorting itself out.
  • Car making funny noises, but surviving
  • Watching niece pretty much every week! She’s great.
  • Wearing lots of cute cute cute dresses. Sad for cold weather to come, thought fall is my favorite season.
  • So much else I am forgetting…

dancin' times 10 months ago

last night i wore pink pants which got me in the mood to dance and i did.

first, went to get Alicia in the ‘burbs then we went to show, stopping for coffee on the way. Show was fine, ok I guess. Then we went to Zodiac to drink and dance and did!

another free show 10 months ago

@ zodiac.

1. blood baby. eh. they were 90% gimmick, and unless you’re weird al, come on…

2. vampire hands. fun and decent but ultimately forgettable.

3. wavves. fuckfuckfuckfucking awesome. could have been louder, but eh, i’m like the one person who says that at shows. i was also reallllly far back at the edge of the crowd and blinded by tall dudes and self-loathing.

4. smart growth. a dude and his mac. the most fun part. i danced and got sweaty. a totally hot girl from a fairly well-known b-more band danced next to me for a couple of songs which was way surreal. and also, the dude whose show we saw last week in his suit was there, front and center with d, h and i.

started out fairly awful, as i was in a dreadful mood and acting rather unfavorably. but after i succumbed to getting just one drink, i dismounted from my very high horse and had a great time. woooo.

got home at 2 or so and hubby and i stayed up talking and kissing in bed for awhile. then i woke up at 7 and finished my book. it was well done; i highly enjoyed reading it. i did not cry at all reading the novel, but about 20 minutes after finishing it, i started bawling over it and over life beyond the page. kind of funny.

had a decent day at work after little sleep, but had pretty good energy, even being sicky. tonight, staying in, but got big plans for the other times including shows, parties, jogging and possibly breaking out the bike. i’ll sleep when i’m dead.

oh, and i got the nod of recognition from this month’s nun.

we spent less than $1 per band 10 months ago

but it was best show thus far of 2009. double dagger, future islands, child bite and boogie boarders at zodiac last night. i tipped the cute bartender girl 75%.
