this looks like the kind of schedule I’ll aim for. You can do it quicker, or take more time, but this looks like its got a good balance:

Day 1: St Bees to Ennerdale Bridge. 14 miles (22.5km)
Day 2: Ennerdale Bridge to Rosthwaite. 14.5 miles (23km)
Day 3: Rosthwaite to Grasmere. 9 miles (14.5km)
Day 4: Grasmere to Patterdale. 8½ miles (13.5km)
Day 5: Patterdale to Burnbanks. 11 miles (17.5km)
Day 6: Burnbanks to Orton. 13 miles (21km)
Day 7: Orton to Kirkby Stephen. 13 miles (21km)
Day 8: Kirkby Stephen to Keld. 13 miles (21km)
Day 9: Keld to Reeth. 11 miles (17.5km)
Day 10: Reeth to Richmond. 11 miles (17.5km)
Day 11: Richmond to Ingleby Cross. 23 miles (37km)
Day 12: Ingleby Cross to Clay Bank Top. 12.5 miles (20km)
Day 13: Clay Bank Top to Glaisdale. 18.5 miles (29.5km)
Day 14: Glaisdale to Robin Hood’s Bay. 19 miles (30.5km)

As for the timing, well all I’ve read so far suggests that october isn’t a great month to be doing this walk in, so I’m starting to think maybe the october half term will be a bit late. Current idea is probably end of september across into early october. That way the weather and the shorter days shouldn’t be a problem.

Now just have to start thinking whether or not it should be campsites, hostels or b&b’s.

Well heres a chance to do something extra good 1 month ago

and have a nice stroll at the same time.

So this walk will now be done with the aim of raising money for these super folks:

http://www.ghimirefoundation.org

and any 43t er who wants to join in, for the whole walk or just a single leg will be welcomed with open arms(and sore feet). Lets walk the walk and help put some hope into peoples lives at the same time.

Hoping to co-ordinate this for sometime next september(or during the October half term break depending on who wants to join in and their availability) so it matches with the intended arrival in the UK of several international 43t ers.

Now that I am looking beyond shadows 2 months ago

This goal can be reinvented. A greatly slimmed down version of the walk across America goal.

This time its a walk from the west coast of England to the East, from St Bee’s Head to Robinhood bay, ala Alfred Wainwright. Thats a mere 190 miles which I would hope to complete in about 10 days.

At the moment the idea in the back of my mind for this is to do it in honour of my mum and maybe try and raise some sponsorship for cancer research. But thats just a vague idea.

Anyway the plan is for next year sometime, possibly late summer.

So along with my degree, this goal is non negotiable. It WILL NOT be deleted, it will not disappear in a fog of rubbish, but IT WILL be achieved as it is part and parcel of rebuilding myself and my future.

So small steps, one foot slowly in front of the other, and onwards to hopefully a better me, and a walk designed to challenge but not breakdown.
