master CSS

So far I have been able to re-theme my drupal based site with one small problem. I am trying to use a background image for my left navbar and becuase I used a drop shadow on it I want it to always display the whole image. What happens however is that the width of the blocks seem to determine the width of the are and I can’t figure out how to fix it at say 220px.

I’ve been goofing around with learning CSS over the past few days by retemplating my drupal based site. The CSS part seems easy enough but I think the xtemplate aspect of drupal is throwing me off. Nothing to do but power through it.

I recently created a new site at www.thisisdearborn.com using drupal. I would like to customize the look and feel and I think learning css is the first step in that process.
