So I’ve read a whole bunch of books since my last entry, although some of them weren’t exactly books I already had (sheepish face). I’m currently on vacation with my family, and – gasp! – I didn’t bring enough books with me to read! I finished the books I brought, and I only have one other one which won’t last me through tomorrow, then I still have the car ride home.
While on vacation, I’ve finished:
The Walking Drum, which my boyfriend gave me to read. Apparently it was one of those defining books of his life. I was almost halfway through it before coming on vacation, actually. I finished that the second night of vacation. Really good. Highly recommended to anyone who likes adventure-type stories or medieval/ early European-Middle East history.
The Red Tent – really good, but it made me sad.
I can’t believe I didn’t bring enough books! I almost grabbed another one…grr…next time, I’ll know better.

I’ve read:
The Te of Piglet – Benjamin Hoff
Slaughterhouse Five – Kurt Vonnegut
Remember Me – Mary Higgins Clark
Before I Say Goodbye – Mary Higgins Clark
Cry, the Beloved Country – Alan Paton
Bluebeard – Kurt Vonnegut
The Jester – James Patterson
And I’m still working on:
The Unconquerable World, Jonathan Schell (this one was a textbook from fall semester that I never actually got a chance to read, so I know what its about, but I want to read it anyways. This book gets a huge round of applause from me. Go buy it and read it asap.)
Catcher in the Rye, Salinger (but I’ve been “working on” that one for quite some time now)
And before this summer is over, I WILL have read:
Diplomacy, Henry Kissinger
High recommendations follow every book on the “done” list.
Oh, and look out world: I’m fairly certain that the Employee Appreciation Sale for Borders Express is this weekend. What do you know, I’m an employee. Could be dangerous. I’m gonna try to control myself a little more than I did last year (guilty face)...

Portraits of “The Whiteman”: Linguistic Play and Cultural Symbols Among the Western Apache”
Ok, so this is also for one of my classes…but I did read it, instead of slacking and just pretending I read it!
Eventually, maybe, I’ll have time to read a book unrelated to class.

Just read How We Survived Communism and Even Laughed by Slavenka Drakulić. All right, so it was for a class…but at least I actually read it. It actually wasn’t bad at all…it was a quick read, I only started it this afternoon. The book covers pretty much the whole second half of the twentieth century, and Drakulić writes mostly about the day-to-day experiences of women, mostly in Yugoslavia, during that time. Things like how Communism failed because it never could provide for its people the basic necessities of life, like toilet paper and tampons.
...I’m sure glad I don’t live under Communism…

American Prometheus, about Robert Oppenheimer…just read most of it and had the rest summed up by a good friend, so I count that as read.

Just finished “Lamb” by Christopher Moore, which I’d bought a couple months ago. HIGHLY recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet…unfortunately I don’t have much time for pleasure reading during the semester…
