Post 43 of my favorite works of art

For my 40th birthday my husband bought me this work.
It is hung on the wall of our living room.
Jo Lannsley & Helen Bendon collaborated on a series of projects including video and photography.
I was lucky enough to see a show of their new work in which this photograph was exhibited.
I was intrigued by the hidden worlds they portrayed and the inherent dangers that can lie within relationships.
Quite apart from the personal reasons for loving it,
I adore the sense of release and desire within.
The yellow butterflies always remind me too of ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (my favourite all time book) & the title was taken from the song we had played at our wedding ,as we signed the marriage register.

No 1.
My favourite library book as a child was a small art book of ‘Modern Masters’, I renewed it so often I thought it was my own.
Of all the great art inside the book this was my absolute favorite & fascinated me the most.Its energy jumped out from the page, the pure joy of it!
The tiny illustration had a power I thought beyond its size.
I was 16 when as an art student I visited the Tate Gallery in London & saw this piece in the flesh. I was gobsmacked, just blown away.
The scale is huge, I really had’nt expected it to be so large. I had goose-pimples & was completly enchanted by its strength.
Years later when I lived in London,I would spend many Sunday afternoons viewing this painting. Its an old, treasured friend.
*(The Snail is one of the last and largest pieces in Matisse’s final works, known as cutouts. He was confined to bed through illness, so he had assistants paint large sheets of paper in gouache which he then cut. The shell of a snail inspired the spiralling arrangement of roughly cut pieces of paper) x
