finish my portfolio

Last night I designed my logo…finally. I knew that I couldn’t move forward until I had a unifying theme, color palette, motif, etc. I was overthinking it to the point of hysteria. I knew that I wanted something very graphic with a strict three-color theme. I refer to my personal style as ‘bohemian modern’. I wanted the graphics package to reflect that without turning off potential clients who are seeking a different look.
I have just started a large tattoo on my shoulder of a dandelion at the moment it is blown on to make a wish. A tattoo of a wish just sums me up entirely. So I created a graphic that is the essence of a dandelion. I LOVE iT!
It makes me so happy!
I chose green, chocolate, and gold as my palette. It is both elegant and funky which really captures who I am as a designer.
This is big progress.
Next step is to finalize the design in photoshop and pick the exact pantone colors so I can have business cards and letterhead printed up.
I’m feeling like a proud peacock.

I have procrastinated this for so long. I am required to take a portfolio prep class AND a portfolio presentation class in order to graduate from design school. I didn’t do anything in prep class. Mainly because I am unhappy with my projects. I am my worst critic. I always think everything needs to be improved. The other downer is the picture quality. Every project that I am really proud of is marred by horrible photography.

So, instead of giving myself these excuses, I have dived head first into learning photoshop. I spent about 10 hours over the past two days working on it. I now have the basic skill level necessary to clean up these photos. I am feeling pretty proud of myself and rather motivated.

I want to do something on this goal every day. It doesn’t have to be big, just forward motion to keep me on it. So, today I am going to look at other design portfolios to get some ideas about organization, format, etc. I would feel far more together if I had the look figured out.
