Be great at my job

“Whenever you see the word “Client” in something to do with building, you know there just has to be an architect involved because no one else in the building game ever refers to anyone as “clients.” It is such a strange word, isn’t it? In a shop you are a customer, on a train you are a passenger, in a hospital you are a patient, in a class you are a student, in the economy at large you’d be a consumer. But client? The only people who have clients are lawyers, architects and prostitutes, all of whom have to live with the reputation that they are simply out to screw you. Only the prostitute is honest about it.”

My client: “Nikki, your task is to find a way to make Winnie and Buck less gaudy and incorporate them into a more sophisticated atmosphere without losing the element of fun and whimsy. People love them.”
Nikki: “Are you sure that people love them?”
Client: “I don’t feel that you embracing Winnie and Buck.”

If embracing W & B is part of being great at my job, today I may choose job suckage instead.

I’m so frickin excited I might pee myself! Two weeks ago I pitched an idea to Paul about designing a signature product line…fabrics, wallcoverings, light fixtures, etc. He said nothing at the time. Then he called me this morning from China to tell me that he has done all the groundwork to make it happen. He already has some great manufacturers on board. AND he is giving me a very big resort project to use as the testing ground.

You can’t see it but I’m totally doing the fancypants dance right now in the middle of the office.
Fuck yes!

I am in the office on a Sunday….I can’t decide if that means that I am really dedicated or that I am not very good at my job if I have to be here….hmm…

I’m gonna go with dedicated.
