I completed my first race in over six years, a 5K, on Jan. 17. My time was not impressive, nor was it the point.
I hopped out of bed at 5:30 a.m., dressed in layers, drove to the race site, registered, stretched, stood around, stretched again and jogged 3.1 miles in 40-degree weather between 7:30-8 a.m. Yikes! That’s the last time I register for a January race.
Perhaps I can train for the San Francisco half-marathon in July.

With nothing appetizing in my refrigerator, I walked to Boston Market for dinner, then walked to the waterfront, down, around and back home. 2.87 miles total. Better than driving (or running on an empty then full stomach.)
If you live in an urban area and sometimes eat out, trying walking to a restaurant rather than driving. It’s more expensive to eat out than at home, but you feel better about the whole thing if you incorporate a little exercise… at least I do.

This has been on my list for so long without any substantial progress! I think I need to just register for a few road races (i.e. put money on the line) for added motivation. Kudos to those of you who take to the streets/track daily.

I have subscribed to free emails from Runner's World. I used to run daily while in elementary school, high school and college. To re-establish a daily routine it is mostly a matter of finding the time and motivation (and good music).
