I've got to do it by January 18th, 2006 4 years ago

That’s when I’m leaving the country and I don’t plan on taking the books with me. I may have to cheat because I keep starting other books, plus I’m preparing for this upcoming trip.

Modern Library Edition seems best 4 years ago

The “definitive” version of Proust’s work didn’t come out until 1989 in France. The Modern Library has released a new translation by D. J. Enright that reflects these changes. It is still based on the Kilmartin revision of Scott-Moncrieff’s translation. The Modern Library does a good job of translating things accurately and readably. I read the Modern Library version of Swann’s Way when I was introduced to Proust in a class and I thought it was very good. Now I’m reading the whole thing in the silver, three-volume version by Penguin, I think. Maybe Vintage.

I don’t understand this new translation that’s coming out with each volume done by a different author. How is it going to be at all consistent? It seems like they’re trying to make it modern and “hip”. Meh.
