‘K, some of you may be from the city so this is not so spectacular, but mind you, I am from the Big Island. We have very few street lights let alone the high rise towers, etc. Lucked out this weekend as we had to take a quick side trip to Honoululu on Saturday night – just in time for this “lights” assignment.
This is the coastline of Waikiki Beach from the top floor of the Rainbow Tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village.
We made a pact to explore this island home of ours more and finally made it to Waipio Valley – about 1 hour from home. Waipio was one of the ancient Hawaiians’ places to fish and many families have lived there for generations. They farm taro—the tuber used to make poi. Natural water runoff from the mountains is diverted to irrigate the taro farms. The valley was gorgeous, lush and tropical, deep down in between two giant cliffs. The road down was about 1 car wide most of the way dowm. In the past, some cars simply did not make it.
That’s where this photo comes in—it used to be a car, but now not much more than a pile of metal as the valley continues to take it back into the earth… not too much longer before the car will succumb to the power of time.
and the right time to get a decent “power” shot. We had another earthquake this morning – a 5.0 aftershock. Even though there was no tsunami threat, the ocean was a bit stirred up… Here’s my photo—Power of the ocean.
I am still searching for my autumn inspiration—tough here in Hawaii. Thanks for the frames, Malc… it was an eye-opener at the park yesterday. Took the kids and here’s what I came up with.
Anyone want to choose the next one for the upcoming week—then we can work on it during the weekend….
I always notice a person’s smile first—then I look to their eyes to see if their smile is real. I love how when we were kids, we were not afraid to let our pleasure light up our entire face! It’s rare to find “grown ups” who smile with full abandon!
This photo is of my cousin—completely lost in the excitement of riding a wave on one of our local beaches. I can feel her glee in this shot!
I did not realize what a challenge this one could be trying to capture the flame…
Aloha all, was on a bit of a hiatus to get married, honeymoon, etc. I missed this weekly challenge and am eager to get back! Here’s my “living thing” again, the ocean—it’s always in my sight. This was special because the day had been slightly gray and overcast… but the sun peeked through in the late afternoon. I just missed the school of fish swimming through, but managed to at least catch the sunrays and sea spray.
