maggots in the willows — 1 year ago
I am getting pretty good at this goal. I spend hours out walking in parks and along the road. I can name most flowers, birds, and trees along the way. I love it. This past weekend we found a willow that we couldn’t figure out. It had a strange bud on the end that looked like a furry artichoke. We peeled off the layers and at the very center was a little teeny tiny orange larvae. It died after it was left in the air a couple of minutes, but it let us know that a bug laid an egg at the end of the willow that released some kind of signal telling the willow to build this structure around the egg. It was so cool….. I am such a dork. I’m 26, I get excited about a maggot on a plant and I wonder why I’m single.
