My reason’s simple enough: I just want to be able to communicate w/ recent immigrants who still only speak Spanish.
Especially down here, it seems like they get enough dirty looks to completely alienate them – I’d like to be able to say, “Hey, how are you?” and “Is there anything I can help you with?” (if I’m @ the Thrift Shop).
I’d like to make them smile, to let them know that some random Anglo chick in Alabama gives a damn about them.
