argh

this goal has been on here forever. And the garage is still filled with junk (and good stuff too). We haven’t parked in there for years.

I really hate garage sales, but my husband has decided we should have one to clear out the crap and to make a few bucks at the same time. Maybe this time I’ll have some help and it won’t be so bad. My idea – have an (almost) everything $1 sale. I really just want to get rid of the stuff in there and the $ is just a side benefit.

We worked on this a bit this past weekend

and then of course it started to rain. arrrgh.

We are in a paralyzed state as there is so much stuff it is too packed to go through unless it gets pulled out into the driveway. A major part of the problem is that we were saving a bunch of stuff for a garage sale. Well I’ve decided to forget that. It just isn’t worth the time & hassle not to mention we really don’t have free weekends to do one. I’m going to load up the van and drop stuff off at Goodwill and other various charities. I might try to sell a few big items on craigslist as I don’t want to lug a train table anywhere. Going to put the exercise stepper on the curb with a “Free” sign.

If we can free up some space, it will be easier to access boxes to go through. I’m in a brutal mood – don’t want to keep anything but photos and maybe some of my books.

I'm afraid I picked the wrong month to do this

I was fooled by a few days of lovely weather in mid January when we were able to pull boxes out into the driveway and sort and toss. Part of the plan involves holding a garage sale of all the stuff at the end.

Well the weather turned after those lovely days and it is too darn cold to work down there :( It was actually colder here the other morning than it was in New York. brrr.

My husband (who has been threatening the dumpster) has suggested an extra month – as HE doesn’t even want to deal with the chilliness.

I wish there was a way to edit or amend your challenges.

oh dear I'd better get moving on this or there will be a dumpster in my driveway

:(

Next action

bring another box upstairs and sort & toss. (too cold to work out there today – I’m a wimp :) )

Spent the rest of the afternoon

pulling out boxes and trying to be very ruthless. My husband and son just want to throw everything away – until I find something useful of theirs of course ;)

As part of the challenge we will have a garage sale at the end – I know – I believe I’ve said they aren’t worth it.. but I’ve told the two teens that if they help out the proceeds will be applied to their youth group retreat at the beach this summer. I had much better cooperation when I came up with that idea.

2 1/2 hours of sorting and tossing

and exclaiming “OH – that’s where that was!)

The trash man will not be happy on Tuesday, but I will

Next action

go through one box and sort ruthlessly

Rather than closing my eyes

and ignoring the overwhelming stack of boxes and assorted junk, I’ve decided that it WILL get done little by little. I’m trying to sort through something everyday and toss as much stuff as possible. 15 minutes is better than nothing.

Our refrigerator died this weekend

so we were forced to clear out the deep freeze in the garage to make room for more recent food. What a waste. I think I found a turkey in the bottom that was over 10 years old. Hmm… The frenzy of cleaning led to a few more hours focused on boxes of junk in the garage – there will be a giant pile of junk on garbage day, yet we’ve barely made a dent. One step at a time though…
