Where I am now 2 years ago

So far…

Things I don’t eat anymore: Meat (including fish), cooked eggs (scrambled, boiled, over easy, etc. which is a biggie coming from a chicken farm ;), Milk (drinking or in cereal)

Why do people believe fish is not meat? for that matter… Why do people think alcohol isn’t a drug?

Things I still eat at the moment: eggs milk and butter in cooked or baked products, cheese, and frozen yogurt.

Sometimes it gets hard for me to stop and think what is in the product before i eat it. Like bread… most breads are ok right? It can be tricky to know if animal products are in certain foods and if you dont have the ingredients listed on a box in front of you it can be impossible to tell unless you yourself made it. I enjoy cooking but I dont have time to cook every meal. Most days I eat cereal and soy milk for breakfast. And then count the non-vegan things from then on. Eventually i will have fruit salad or spinach salad for lunch and a nice hot veggie meal for dinner.

I’m doing good. baby steps.

Today I was asked if I was vegetarian and I said no... 2 years ago

My friend and I went to a Mexican grill type place for lunch today. It was the last day we could get lunch together this semester, because finals are next week. Anyways I ordered the veggie burrito sticking to my goal. My friend knew the person waiting on us and started a conversion. She asked me if I was a vegetarian and I said no.

Why?

My friend has a stigma against vegans or vegetarians. He told me once about how a student brought in candy for everyone and the girl next to him didn’t take one. She stated that she was vegan. So he told her that for every candy she didn’t eat he would eat 2. Even farther he told her for every steak or hamburger she passed up he would eat double. She was obviously appalled.

And this all came to mind the moment he wanted to go to lunch. I knew his opinions and I didnt feel like getting hit like that. But even without saying i was trying to become vegan I told him how humans really are not made to eat meat. I was preaching to him though it got me no where. Which is fine. Even though i denied being a vegetarian I still got some words in against eating meat. It’s too bad it fell on such stubborn judgmental ears.

I should have said yes, but I was scared…

ok baby baby steps... 2 years ago

So today i realized that becoming vegan is going to be a little harder then i thought. Today I did not eat any meat, which was my main goal. However now i am also looking at how much dairy i eat. I was at school all day and had a veggie pizza for lunch. Cheese is dairy and of course they dont have soy cheese. Later I got a smoothie that had milk in it. I didnt ask if they had soy milk next time i will do that, but chances are they dont.

See the trouble comes when i cant cook for myself because i am out and about. The American culture is not very very open to the whole vegan thing… at least where I am anyways…I watch TV and LA looks so accepting of it and has alot more to offer then here. Maybe i will move there someday. lol.

Anyways new plan. I want to make sure the not eating meat part is pretty strong before i move on to the dairy and eggs part. I will still count how much of that i eat and try to limit myself. So instead of just a week of that before full out vegan I am gonna go a month and then cut out dairy and eggs.

This will also give me time to try out vegan recipes and decided what ones i really enjoy. I went to the college library and only found 2 vegan cookbooks. One of them isnt even truely vegan because it calls for eggs alot. (and honey and maple syrup, but im not worried about those yet) Anyways. Its goin to be so hard. But i am still gonna try.

Vegan Someday I hope. 2 years ago

Hey guys! I’m so excited to start this up. Let me tell you my story.

I grew up on a small chicken farm. My parents only had the chickens for eggs and usually never killed them for meat. However, later on we did add turkeys for Thanksgiving. People always asked me how could I eat the very turkeys I raised. To tell ya the truth it was easy to forget that I raised them. Weeks before Thanksgiving we simply put them in a cage and dropped them off at the local butcher. They came back neatly wrapped and look nothing like what we had dropped off. The home raised taste factor also played a part. Our home grown turkeys were the biggest and best tasteing turkeys i have ever had. And our chicken’s eggs are bright orange and taste so much better then store bought.

Anyways…. now a days we don’t raise turkeys because i do see them as my pets. And as for the chickens we now have Polish Chickens as pets. My parents still enjoy their eggs.

After my interest in eating healthier and seeing how much humans are not intended to eat meat I’m choosing to try to become vegan. It will have to happen in baby steps. And it will not be easy seeing how my family enjoys their meat. But i will try.

The first step is to stop eating meat. I will do this for a week and then add another step which is cutting out dairy and eggs. (which will be the hardest for me.)

The way I look at it is, If i can’t pick it up and eat it raw its not intended for me to eat it. I cant eat meat or eggs without cooking it. And dairy products has to go through alot before it is able to be sold. I dont what to put this in my body and i dont want to eat animals anymore!

So i will let you guys know all about my journey and post recipes of vegan dishes i enjoy!

wish me luck!! <3
