I’ve never eaten much fish—the extent of it has been fish sticks as a kid, a few instances of shark steak (until they figured out it had too much mercury), and the occasional tuna casserole.
But I’ve read sooo much about how good it is for you, and so many people think fish is an absolutely delicious delicacy. So this weekend, at a nice restaurant, I buckled down and tried ceviche-marinated mahi mahi. It was fantastic! No fishy taste at all, just yummy marinade flavor.
Ceviche, by the way, is apparently a Latin American marinade composed of lemon and lime juice, tequila, and a bit of brown sugar.
Eventually, I hope to become comfortable cooking a few different fish dishes. But that is going to be a big step.

Had two breakfasts today just because some donuts were available at work! Donuts are great—but I need to try to eat them occasionally instead of several times a week. I would feel so much better if I didn’t get a mid-morning sugar crash.

Healthy, wholesome eating has been a big part of my life for the past few years. Thanks to Pollan’s In Defense of Food, I now have a tagline to name my goal! :)
A few main priorities:
- Avoid processed food
- Learn tantalizing ways to prepare produce
- Discover alternative sources of protein, but still have meat a few times a week (I would never give up steak, yum!)
- Cut down on the quantity of baked goods I eat (given the opportunity, I could subsist on cake)
