Dress better

scarves  — 1 year ago

I’m obsessed with silk scarves right now, and I wore one to work today! I think it looks good, but maybe I am insane.

But more importantly, blow-dried my hair and put on make up!

I really REALLY need to pick out my outfits the night before. I went to get dressed today and the pants I thought I could wear fit me like a frickin balloon on my butt.

I’m consistently dressing nicer than I used to, if only by a tiny tiny bit. Make up and hair are still a little iffy. I keep coming to work without either one. I bought some silk scarves last week and I love them. Still figuring out the best things to do with them, though.

Yesterday I was going to go out, but there was something blah about my outfit, I just didn’t feel cute at all. Finally, I put on a pair of earings, and it just added so much and I felt a lot better! So taking time to think and try to “finish” the outfit, makes a huge difference!

one step at a time  — 1 year ago

Last Thursday I wore lipstick because I wore a marroon dress shirt (with French cuffs, but unfortunately, just the button links they come with—haven’t purchased a nice pair yet), and it looked really good.

I normally don’t wear lipstick b/c it always seems to come off and look silly. Well, I just need to remember to go to the bathroom after lunch and reapply, it’s really no big deal! Plus it makes me feel kind of prissy, and I like that.

(on the other hand, wore eyeliner and dark lipstick when I went to the mall—not doing THAT again any time soon, I looked like a 14 year old playing drama-goth or something, and it made me feel really fat)

anyway, business casual as normal today, but rolled up the sleeves of my shirt (no idea if that’s acceptable or not). Also “diamond” earrings, pearl necklace, and stainless steel watch? Too many different textures? I need to buy some pearl earrings…..and a wider belt.

oh, one more thing, pulled my hair back when it was wet this morning, b/c no time to blow-dry (normally I’d just be a little late, but it was already 10:30), but I sprayed it lightly with some light hairspry (LIGHTLY) first, and then brushed it with a real brush, and it’s stayed neatly back and not gone all frizzy on me. And no creepy hair-spray lines, either. It’s maybe too sleek of a look for me, though, with my round face, I wish I knew of more easy hairstyles that were work appropriate.

make up and hair-check
a patterned skirt and a black t-shirt, sure I wear it every week, but it is easy and looks good with the cardigan I keep at work. Also remembered to put on my pearls. AND I rolled my shirt, so it is (almost) lint free.

getting there….slowly :)

I think once my weight is something I like, and also stable, then this will be a really fun goal to meet. I love clothes, but it’s always so frustrating how they fit. Now that I’ve lost 20lbs, I can wear so much more, but once I lose another 20, oh man, not quite anything I want, since I’m so short, but so close, and it’s going to be awesome!

that's not all  — 1 year ago

this doesn’t just mean dressing better, it means styling my hair and wearing make up, too.

But I did that today. And I laid out my clothes last night and even picked out accessories. As someone who almost never wears accessories, earrings, a watch, AND a brooch?? unheard of.

Unfortunately, this skirt is really obnoxious. The lining sticks out at the end whenever I sit down and rides up when I walk. Hopefully it won’t fit for long and I’ll have an excuse to buy a new one.
