So last semester, I found out my school has a musical competition.
I began hustling—putting up flyers to try to get people to join me. Only people in frats and sororities ever participate! I’m not greek but I want to be in a musical so bad. Its always been my DREAM to be in a musical!
I sent mass e-mails to people… clubs that I joined would send mass e-mails and I would click “reply all” to each and every one of them.
In the end… I got about 15 people who expressed a lot of interest (15 people out of the 100s of people on the email lists and all my flyers!!). But I did have some wonderful luck! I met a great FIGHT choreographer and a friend who’s much more experienced than me with theater styles, music and the art in general. She’s my co-director.
We have our AUDITION next week. The musical is 5 – 10 minutes long, so its ‘okay’ that we haven’t gotten together yet. Our first rehearsal is going to be on Monday. I will make updates!
BTW… the theme of the competition is disney. Since we only have 15 people to choose from (I’m sure some one is going to decide to not do it anymore), we thought Oliver and Company would be good with a small cast & has potential for really great choreography. I wanted LION KING, but its just too grandiose.
Please wish us luck! So I can be able to say “I directed and have been in a musical”! :D
