get a dog

Looks like we’ll be buying a house within the next 6-7 months. As soon as we get that house set up, I am going to the humane society and fulfilling my almost lifelong dream of having my own dog! :) (I’ll be staying home with a baby, and want one for safety and protection if nothing else!)

I spent a lot of time picking a breed I like, but I think we’ll just wind up with some kind of Lab mix from the shelter. I don’t want a puppy, but I also don’t want a senior dog either. A young one who’s already housebroken would be perfect. Just a furry little friend to keep me and the baby company in our new house all day that I can love on. :) It would be great if we could also take him/her backpacking or camping next summer, too!

After doing some research, I think that Mastiffs won’t be the best breed for our lifestyle. I’ve tentatively settled on German Shepherds for now. :)

I fell in LOVE with my husband’s aunt’s 2 mastiffs she got from a rescue society. As soon as we get a house, I’m getting one! I’m going to name it Laika.
