I think I'm hooked... 9 months ago

...on making my own bread. I’ve made ordinary white bread twice, and cracker bread yesterday (for my husband’s hummus, which he has just learned how to make himself) Kneading is my favorite part, followed by the anticipation that builds while it’s in the oven. I haven’t calculated cost on it yet, but I’m certain that my homemade bread is no more than $1 a loaf, especially with getting the flour on sale. Different breads might cost more to make, depending on what the ingredients are, but I’m starting out simple. We bought lots of bread, so this is actually a good money saver for us. The homemade hummus is also a heck of a lot cheaper than storebought. It’s also great because he can customize it very easily to suit his taste.

2009 is going to be a frugal year for me. 10 months ago

Frugal: Economical in the use or appropriation of resources; not wasteful or lavish; wise in the expenditure or application of force, materials, time, etc.; characterized by frugality; sparing; economical; saving; as, a frugal housekeeper; frugal of time.

There are so many goals on my list that tie to this goal of frugality. I’m tired of feeling strapped for both cash and time. I need to focus managing my time and money the way I feel is important.

We’ve cut spending the last couple of months, and will continue to do so until our finances are under control. We’ve been going out a lot less, and now can fill the time with the stuff that we want to do… but just couldn’t find the time for (I’m going to try my hand at baking bread this weekend).
