i’m sure a lot of people here know what a ‘gap year’ is… but if you don’t … a lot of european kids and some americans too… take a year off before starting college (or ‘uni’) or after they’re done, before entering a professonal field… to go off and do … whatever.
a lot of kids go off and work or volunteer abroad for a few months instead of just trekking it around a country, countries, etc.

whilst you might not be thinking of doing it like this… the concept is still the same. taking a few weeks, months of timeout… going somewhere new and exploring, finding new experiences, etc.
there’s a forum/message board there where you can read other people’s experiences, advice, etc. lots of information about packs, making travel routes, fundraising for your trip, etc.
