I cleaned last weekend

Really cleaned, for the first time in a long time and it felt good. I need to be more grateful for my home. Even though it’s not my dream home, and I’m not crazy about the neighborhood, it’s a solid little house and I feel proud for owning and maintaining it all by myself.

My son’s room is smelling up the whole house. Disgusting – he has to clean it TODAY. I need to put more time and effort into this goal.

Gazebo and yard

I finally bought patio lights for my gazebo, and we spent all of Easter cleaning up the yard. I’m ready to entertain!

Two things...

My old vacuum cleaner kind of blew up, so I bought a really nice new one. Well, really nice for me, it’s not a Dyson or anything, but it’s pretty sweet. :)

And the other thing, I actually hired a cleaning person to come in once a week. I’m working really HARD on the business, and seeing lots of clients, so I feel like I can afford/deserve a break, given how I HATE cleaning so much.

I want to find the energy to do some other things, like paint and decorate the dining room, make my son’s room more of a fun place for him, etc.

Work is taking all I have right now, though.

Today at the Evil Empire, or perhaps you know it as Wal-Crap, I bought both a new microwave AND a new toaster oven. The ones I had before were old and behaving bizarrely and were perhaps (hopefully) contributing to ridiculously high electric bills.

The toaster oven would cook everything as expected except for toast. It would take, no lie, 10 minutes to make bread sort of less soft. The new toaster oven has superpowers, and we burnt taco shells in about 15 seconds. It will take getting used to.

The old microwave did a really amazing job at cooking whatever container the food was in, but leaving the food cool. It was a quite impressive trick, but frustrating, and resulted in cracked ceramic bowls, burned fingers, and lots of swearing. The new microwave does its job well, and quietly. It’s kind of boring, but I think we’ll adapt.

I bought...

...curtains for my living room, and new dark brown velvet throw pillows for the couch. The living room looks more homey now, especially with my beautiful Christmas tree with white lights and gold ornaments. :-) I am beginning to really appreciate my house.

I wish I was more consistent with this goal

I’m either all-out for a whole weekend, or doing nothing for weeks. Tomorrow I need to clean and rake and do my gutters, and I’m just not mustering up any enthusiasm.

Maybe it’s time to focus on making something nicer – painting the dining room or buying furniture for the computer/guest room…rather than just chores, chores, chores.

Well, ok, some of my goals got met

My son and I painted what is now the guest room (or will be when I get some furniture in there). It’s a lovely sage green and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. The grass is growing out near the road which is a good thing. And the house is getting so uncluttered that it’s beginning to feel serene.

It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it!

I am busy with this goal right now

Over the past couple of weeks I have de-cluttered and cleaned…feels like a whole new place. This weekend I want to repair the screens on the windows, weatherproof, and maybe paint my spare room to get it ready to become my guest/computer room.

The first thing that is going to have to happen is a thorough cleaning from top to bottom. Sigh. I have a small house, but it feels like a huge undertaking. I didn’t realize how dirty it really was until my husband moved out…But now it’s time to start taking care of my house AND myself.
