Alternately, I might join a CSA – I sent an email to one that’s fairly local, asking if they sell half shares. I don’t know that we could eat 10 pounds of veggies in a week. I would have to learn how to freeze/preserve/can them.

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver and I highly recommend it. It has me wondering if maybe I could take another shot at growing something green and edible this year.

Milk 13 months ago

I’ve been solely buying milk produced in my state for the past month or so. It’s not organic, but I weighed my options – organic from somewhere across the nation, that had to be trucked to me, using how many gallons of gas and emitting how many tons of pollution…or buy milk that was produced by the ever-dwindling number of dairy farms right here in Connecticut.

And the milk is good!

I love my local farm and hanging out with Farmer Mike. Today I brought home eggs from the happy chickens there, and fresh farmer’s cheese and yogurt from the healthy, well cared for cows. :)

And Farmer Mike, who’s old enough to be my dad, told me I was pretty. Bonus! :-)

Have not been doing great with this 2 years ago

But I stopped at the farm stand on the way home and bought corn, tomatoes and nectarines.

Where I live it’s very hard to find locally grown food (without driving 20 minutes to Whole Foods) and that’s sad.
