It is worth it if one has some get-up-and-go left when one comes home after work. I didn’t, so I’ll give this goal a rest and use money as new incentive on my new goal attend fitness classes in the office gym

...me! Second morning that I got from bed into my running shoes.
Last night, I also did some sun salutations and 50 sit-ups, and leg lifts and a few push ups. This morning, all my muscles hurt really bad, but I feel grand! Yay me!
I had the shock of my life last sunday, when some of my newest pants wouldn’t fit up my legs anymore, stuck half-way up. I got so disgusted with myself that I have got a new strict regime when it comes to nutrition, and I also want to work out more, so I hope I have the tenacity to go running again, even tho it’s still friggin’ FREEZING!
Note: No coffing fit after running this morning. Stopping smoking 4 months ago really made a difference.

I didn’t go that evening, hence I haven’t been since.

I picked it up again on monday evening. My legs hurt soooo much!!!! It’s nearly 48 hours ago and I am still in so much pain. Will try again tonight.
... and the city of Amsterdam have decided to use “our” end of the park as a highway for their renovation works trucks. So they have blocked my entire track off with metal fences to our side and concrete triangular barrier things (hip-high!) on the inside of the asphalted walkway. So I can’t run. I know it’s a sorry excuse, and I have stopped running before the barriers were put up, but it’s Amsterdam, and Amsterdam turns nasty in wintertime. So I am taking a break.
I keep making up new “mantras” to chant in my head while running, whenever I have this feeling coming on that I’m about to die. Sometimes I keep thinking “Mind over matter” in the rhythm of my foot steps, but I notice myself relaxing more now, while running. Even looking around. Seeing people left and right, not just avoiding collision. I can’t believe this is actually turning into a fun thing to do. Yesterday, my bf and I were in the Amsterdam harbour to see the parade of the SAIL coming in (huge sailing ships and maritime expo http://www.sail.nl/ ). I bet we walked about 6km and cycled there and back, which would have been the best excuse not to run in the evening, but I still felt like getting out there and do it.
A quick update on my running efforts: over the last couple of days, I have kept it up daily. My sister thought I’d given up because I hadn’t blogged about it lately, so there you are…
My goal now is to run 5 times a week.
I have tried to figure out the length of my round in Vondelpark, but I have no clue how long my steps are (or rather, how short…), and I messed up counting my steps at around 1300, which is approximately 2 fifths of the round. You figure it out!
In any case, the run takes me about 20 minutes. And an hour to recover from it!!!
I went running last night, and I did the entire round in one go!!! So proud….
This morning, I tried to do it again, but I was exhausted after about four fifths of the round.
This seems to become easier.
Thanks Richard for the encouragement, I did buy some cheap runners to ind out if I am going to stick with the programme. So if I can keep up this 5 – out of 7 – days rhythm, I will go and get myself some real trainers.
