Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Do the Couch-to-5k running plan at half speed

Today, we did another run of 3 – 5 – 3 – 5 minutes running and half the time in between walking. On the first 5 minute-run, I felt like I was going to croak again, but then I mustered all the energy I could to finish the run. The following 3 minute-run was a piece of pish, and the last 5 minutes were hard but doable. It seems we can crank it up again on the weekend or next week. I still want to repeat this exercise once more before progressing to the next.

Huffin' and puffin'

We’ve been doing this spradically, but not really committedly.
Monday, we did the 3min-90sec-5min-2.5min-repeat run, and I did OK on both runs, but when we tried to repeat the miracle last night, I croaked after the first run! My calves turned rock hard and I gace up. Will try this again, soon.

Ouch whatta night! Week 4 run 1

I wasn’t sure from the start if I was going to make it…
We had cleaned up the garden on Sunday, so I already was sore all over. Also I wasn’t sure if I could run 5 min at a time, so I did not only bring the stopwatch but also my ipod to distract me from looking at the watch and seeing seconds turning into hours.
The first two 5 minute runs with 3 minute breaks in between were fine, I had listened to U2’s “Numb” and “Discotheque” which passed while I was huffing and puffing away.
The third run was too much, though, and I flagged after 3 minutes.
We shall try this scheme a few times before we go onto the runs 2 and 3 of this week, as they seem quite tough to me. If I can’t run 5 minutes, how am I supposed to run 20?
But I am optimistic. Due to going out tomorrow evening, shopping for contact lenses on Thursday and the company party (Casino Royal style!) I won’t have the time to run again until the weekend, so another reason to do this one over again.

week 3, runs 2 & 3

We went running on Saturday and yesterday. The Saturday run was quite difficult, I thought I was going to die after 2 minutes of running, but prevailed, survived and came out at the other end. It did make me feel unfit to run, though and I wasn’t too happy with how the exercise is going. I found it quite intimidating, and having read into what to do on week 4, I was even a bit scared. If I am huffing and puffing after 2 1/2 minutes, how am I meant to run for 5?
On yesterday’s run though, I was less focussed on how horrific running is, but had a chat with my bf about other stuff, which made the time go by faster. I felt great afterwards and it was a success. Still, I’d like to repeat this exercise at least once more before raising the bar.

Week 3, run 1

I liked it! I struggled a bit through the two 3-minute runs, but kept going and came out at the other end!
The two 90-second runs were too easy, so confidence is growing along with fitness levels. Furthermore, upon coming home, bf noticed (or verbalised) that I generally look happier after running, even though I’m more tired than before. So I can see the benefits of doing this goal and keeping it up. I still can’t see myself run a second longer than 3 minutes, but I am sure that taking it a step at a time, we can do the whole plan.

Week 2b, run 3

This one went alright, but at run 3 or 4 out of six, I was having a hard time. Still I think I can progress to the next level on Monday or Tuesday. Woohoo!
Since we cover more ground in the same time as with the week 1-scheme, we have added a loop around the Blue Teahouse in Vondelpark, which is very pretty at night. Did I mention we only run after dark? Too vain to show off our wobbly butts to the rest of the public in daylight…

Week 2b, run 2

We’ve had a great run today! Bf had been ill since Monday, and we didn’t go running on the weekend before, so technically it’s been a week in between, but we did so well.
I am so happy we went, and I am chuffed this is feeling so good.
We decided to do one more run of the week 2 scheme and then move on to week 3.

Week 2b, run 1

Since we were OK the last time with running a minute at a time, our second run 2008 followed the week two schematics, without any hitches. That was on Thursday, since then we have been Extreme IKEAing, so we are out of energy now. But tomorrow is a nother day.

Week 1c, run 1

Since we haven’t gone running in about two weeks, yesterday, we started over again. We did a good run 1 of the week 1 regime. I hope we can raise the performance soon.

Week 2, run 2 - 21-12-07

This one was pretty uneventful. I wanted to give up after running period 2, but persevered to make it all the way.
