Apart from a few technicalities, it was a great experience. I first walked into the park while bf was still watching Match of the Day, and I walked on the swamped lawn until my boots were soaked and my socks got wet. There were still many clouds in the sky and it took me 5 to 10 minutes to find the moon in the sky, because I didn’t know where to look for it.
So I went home to get bf, wellies and camera. We walked again into the park and when we had found a nice spot in the park without lamps to spoil the view, I noticed that I a) had forgotten to put the memory card back into the camera, and b) “But why is the rum gone?!” So we went back again to get the card and to a night shop to get us a can of beer each, back into the park. Wellington boots are the best invention since porridge. No more worries about mud and dirt and puddles. The eclipse itself was beautiful and the clouds mercifully stayed low enough in the sky not to cover the event. The moon didn’t look quite as red as on the attached picture (I blame the light pollution in AMsterdam). We also did a bit of stargazing and saw the Gemini stars Castor and Pollux, added Arcturus in Bootes to our list of known celestial bodies and stuck around until 0:45 to see the moon turn from its mysterious red glow back to pale grey. Well worth it.

Well, what can I say?

The total eclipse is going to start in a few moments, and… I’m off! Cross your fingers and toes the clouds will leave a window to see the moon.
