I found classes 4 years ago

at G Street Fabrics- this semester it may be out of the question with my crazy schedule, but I know where to look and can maybe work something out for later in the year. I spent today at the “Crafty Bastards” fair in Adams Morgan. I needed a little artistic inspiration and seeing all the DIY punk crafters was a major blessing- even if I spent way more than I should have on handpainted and spun yarn from South Africa. A beautiful angora scarf is already in progress. Oh- and I got a pep talk by mail from my darling friend Stephanie who wanted to let me know her 7 month old sleeps with the blanket I crocheted for him every night. Bless his adorable pudgy little heart. By summer, i could be quite the sewing lady.

I tried google 4 years ago

but am having a hard time finding any sewing classes in DC that aren’t just for teens. If I had a car, I suppose the suburbs may be full of seamstresses. Anyone have any suggestions for a search that will yield the desired results? I need evening or weekend classes for fall that aren’t too pricey.

I know how to sew 4 years ago

in a minimal way… I used to do some theatrical costuming work. But I never got the hang of the whole sewing machine and patterns business. At five feet tall and busty, the ability to make my own stuff would definitely help (clothes in stores are either too tiny and elfin for me or way too long). Plus, then I can get my retro groove on and stitch up some delicious pencil skirts and wide-leg trousers. I suppose I should google evening sewing classes in DC and see what I can come up with? Oh- and I need to buy a cheap sewing machine. My friend Stacey the expert seamstress swears by the $99 Brother machines from Wal-Mart.
