It happens every time...... 2 years ago

Whenever my routine gets upset, my diet and exercise goes haywire.
And when that happens, my body chemistry changes for the worse.
My immunity falls and i get sick.
And usually it is a bad throat infection that results in a sore throat followed by a cough and cold that takes weeks to shake off.
And its happened again. Woke up today with a sore throat. Taking three hour-and-a-half classes did not help.
Am feeling pretty rotten.
I PROMISE to at least eat clean for the rest of duration of my summer course.
All those bad carbs and unhealthy fats really mess me up.

Its that time of the year.... 2 years ago

Hot scorching dry summers.
Power outages due to increase in demand and shortfall in supply.
An intensive five week course to kick start the new academic year for my new students in the exausting heat.
No energy to cook …..
No motivation or energy to exercise.
I just try my best to eat healthy ( not very successfully ), walk whenever I find the energy, drag myself through a step work-out about thrice a week and drink plenty of water.
Another four weeks to go before life returns to normal.

My latest favourite meal. 2 years ago

I always found myself getting cramps in my calf and foot when I rested in the afternoons after my gym session.
Last week, as there was no cooked lunch at home, I chopped up fruit into large chunks apple, pineapple, banana, watermelon, sapodilla and papaya.
I don’t know why, but I sprinkled some salt and a generous amount of pepper tossed it and piled it high into a plate. I ate it with a fork, enjoying the sweet-salt-spicy assault on my tongue. I also had a glass of indian yoghurt called dahi to round off the meal.
That day I had no cramps! Not only had I eaten a yummy, healthy meal, something in it had cured my cramps! Now, I eat this every day when I get back home from the gym. The cramps have not come back! The apple, banana and pineapple are always there. The other fruit, I vary. Today I added plums, watermelon, strawberies and grapes. And I never forget the salt and pepper!

Self care for me is 2 years ago

Maintaining a healthy body with
a nutritious diet,
a regular and varied exercise routine,
regular sleeping habits,
taking my health supplements,
a health check up once in 6 months to keep tabs on my two major health problems : insulin resisitance and adenomyosis.

Maintaining a balanced mind by
Keeping my brain active and challenged.
Doing something creative.
Reading.
Indulging in recreation like TV and music.
Meditating.

Maintaining emotional well-being by
Tapping into my ability to make myself happy without having to depend on others for my happiness.
Surrounding myself with people whom I need and people who need me.
Introspection.
Being a person who is useful and productive.
Being kind to myself so that I can be kind to others.
Learning to forgive, if not, forget.

And finally for maintaining my spiritual well-being
connecting with my God through prayer.
