I recently enrolled in a photography class at a junior college. I’m still learning all the neat things you can do with an SLR camera (I bought a Canon 450D/XSi DSLR camera) and I’m having a lot of fun with it!
I’m more than halfway into the semester and I’ve learned most of the concepts in photography such as Depth of Field, Composition, Lighting (e.g. side lighting, diffused lighting, backlighting, etc.), Exposure (e.g. over- and under- exposure, bracketing, equivalent/comparable exposure, ISO, f-stop/aperture, shutter speed), Composition (e.g. portrait, landscape, location, terminator line), Metering, etc.
Photography is an expensive hobby. The top-of-the-line lenses will set you back a couple of thousand dollars. I foresee myself outgrowing the “kit” lens (Canon 18mm – 55mm) soon. So far, I have my eyes set on a Canon 18mm – 200mm EFS lens.
