I’m saying I’ve done this because I really do eat healthily most of the time. I never eat fast food. I cook with fresh ingrediants. If I eat convenience type foods, I choose healthy stuff. I eat fruits and veggies everyday, and eat whole grain stuff instead of refined stuff. I eat mostly seafood instead of meat.
I do have an occasional treat, but I don’t consider that a bad thing.

This is one of those goals I evaluate monthly, and looking over my food journal, I’ve done well for February. I ate healthy stuff in healthy serving sizes, and ate treats in moderation. I’m really trying to make this a lifelong habit. I know I will stay healthier if I eat healthier.
Here’s a few things I do:
1. I don’t really eat fast food, at least not burger and fry type places.
2. I bring my lunch to work most of the time.
3. I try to eat lots of produce, like veggie side dishes, big salads for meals sometimes, and fruit smoothies.
4. I try to eat whole grain versions of things like cereals, breads, and even snack foods.
5. I don’t eat meat often. If I do, I try to make it seafood or occasionally chicken.
6. I don’t drink soda very much.

I’ve faithfully kept a food journal since the beginning of the year, and I can honestly say I’ve eaten well about 90% of the time. I had a couple meals where I could have made healthier choices, and a couple nights where I had a second glass of wine. But overall, pretty good. I’m happy with how I did, and I’ve saved money by not eating lunch out a couple days every week.

I actually ate healthier all of last week. The hardest part was not buying espresso drinks and junk food at work this last weekend.
I want to eat healthier because I know I will feel so much better.

...to not pack a healthy lunch for Sat and Sun. I have good quality turkey from the deli and whole grain bread in my kitchen, plus some baby carrots and grape tomatoes. I just need to not be too lazy to make a sandwich at 5 am both days. :)

I’m going to start doing this again today. I’ve been more conscious of my eating patterns in the last month or so, and have tried to make good choices. But my good choices were cancelled out by various holiday events. I went to a lot of parties.
So, today I will start by making healthy choices and documenting them in a food journal program I have on my computer. I seem to do better when I know I have to write my food down. I will also really try to only have one glass of wine with dinner each night instead of two, and will cut out fancy coffee drinks that have a lot of sugar and fat.
I hate to call this a New Year’s resolution since New Year’s resolutions tend to not last. I’d rather not lose momentum the 3rd week of January because I want to get healthier and stay that way.

I really plan on working on this one this next year. I don’t know if I am more sedentary or if it’s because I’m in my 30’s but my clothes are tighter and that’s not good.
I don’t know if New Year’s Eve or Day will pose a problem, but I had a grilled chicken salad for lunch today with lots of veggies, so I guess that’s a good start.

Today for lunch, I made a fancier version of grilled cheese. I used both provolone and parmesan cheese with slices of roasted red peppers and green peppers. I used 15 grain bread and instead of buttering the bread before grilling it, I brushed it with basil flavored olive oil.
A very good sandwich; healthy and vegetarian.

I am making vegetarian chili and sweet corn bread for dinner.
I have gotten my husband to not expect meat every night and that is great. I still eat it occasionally, but I know every little bit that I cut back helps my health and the environment.

My husband wanted to meet at a burger place for lunch. I was driving there thinking, “Great, what the heck will I eat for lunch? French fries?”
They had different kinds of baked potatoes on the menu and I got one with salsa and cheese. It was really good for a fast food potato. That and a small saled were lunch. I then went to Starbucks for a small non-fat latte.
Not bad, fairly healthy and no meat.
In my grad school research I’ve been reading lots about how bad the American diet is for our health, and I’m really trying to make some healthy changes.
