Read War & Peace

Ok, so I started over and reread the first chapter last night.

I’m going to put a big piece of paper on my wall so I can write people names on it, and draw the links between them, just to help me remember who’s who.

It’s been so long since I last read any War & Peace so I’ve kinda forgotten what has happened in the bit I already read. The mile-long names don’t make it any easier to keep track of who’s who, either. Once exams are over I’ll have to start over again, and try and read it all before uni starts again.

This goal got put on hold for a while. First of al because the book itself is massive, making the idea of carting it around with me every day not very appealing. I’d just as soon carry a brick around in my bag.

The second reason was due to the fact that I got stuck into ‘The Tawny Man’ by Robin Hobb. Excellent sequel to ‘The Farseer Triology’.

However, now that I’ve finished reading ‘The Tawny Man’ and have considered that my reluctance to carry War & Peace around is just laziness, I can get back to reading it.

I finished of all the books I had been reading, so yesterday afternoon I picked up my copy of War & Peace to have a bit of a read. I didn’t expect to read much as I’ve heard that it’s pretty heavy going … But no, it’s actually turning out to be a great read. I’m up to chapter 14 of the first part, and just about got my head around who everyone is and who is related and all that. It’s definitely gonna take me a while to read (have you seen the size of it?) but it’s not going to be the chore that I first imagined it might be.

A friend and I each recently bought a copy of War & Peace with the idea in mind that we’d both read it, and be able to discuss it as we went along. Haven’t started yet, but that’s the plan! Have to fit it in between reading various textbooks for uni … Guess which I’d rather read :)
