I received the results from my final class, simultaneous interpretation, and passed! So that’s the final course. Wow. My education has been furthered.

*gulp* 2 years ago

I passed Consecutive Interpreting, took the final exam for Simultaneous (which means that I have finished THE PROGRAM!!!!!!!!!!), and got the results from the written portion of the state certification exam which I took in April. One needs a passing score of 70 for both the English and Spanish sections.

My Result: English-80, Spanish-82!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my.

There remains only one step to my becoming a Certified Court Interpreter; the oral portion on the state exam, to be taken in July. oh, oh my.

nearly there 2 years ago

I had one final exam—consecutive interpreting—passed and finished the course. Very nice…. I still have one more month of Simultaneous, then I will be finished with the classes. Although I have started considering taking the Medical Interpreting class over the summer, just to have another option and to keep practicing….

Yesterday I took the written portion of the CA state certification exam. I will find out in a month or so whether or not I’ve passed. If I pass, I will be eligible to take the oral exam which I believe will be given in July…. yikes.

Midterms 2 years ago

I had both midterm tests this week—Simul was ok, although I flaked out and did some really weird paraphrasing in Spanish. Last night was Consec, and I think it went pretty well! I only have about two months left before I finish the program, so I am determined to study harder….. and more….. A slight panic about the State Exam has started to creep up on me, so I want to be as prepared as necessary so I don’t freak out. Keep your eye on the prize…...

The Last Semester 2 years ago

I am almost there! I passed last semester’s classes and am a few weeks into Consecutive 2 and Simultaneous 2. I will try the written portion of the state exam in April. If I pass, I will try the oral, which I believe is going to be given in Junel. I am determined to study much harder this time, which should be easier, given that I am totally single and have ditched the silly second job.

I had my final exam for Sight Translation last week, and despite having had a really crazy summer, I managed to pull it together to pass the final with just a few stupid errors. Next; Consecutive Interpreting 1 and Simultaneous Interpreting 1.

MIdterm 3 years ago

The summer course is so short—the midterm has snuck up on us all. It is tonight! I have to sight translate two texts—one from English into Spanish, the other vice versa. I am a little nervous about the translation into Spanish, because I know my vocab is my weak point. Oh well….. Our instructor said this will not make or break us, but give her an idea of what we need to focus on for the final. Cool.

Sight Translation! 3 years ago

I started this course last week. So far, so good! I was very happy to see several of my classmates from the Intro course, and we also have some new classmates who are doing the program in a different order. The instructor for this course seems really good, and it’s great for me to be exposed to her accent (Argentinian), which is different from my previous instructor’s (Ecuatorian?). My new book and cds arrived in the post a day after I ordered them online, so I have no excuse not to study…

...finished! The final wasn’t bad! The next course, Sight Translation, will start next week, I think. Must get registered.

I did my first consecutive interpreting in class last night. I was nervous, but did ok and was very very happy to get positive feedback from my classmates and just a few critiques from my instructor. I was scared about doing it for the first time in front of everybody, so I am glad that I did it!
