move to California

With my lease signed, I feel I can check this off. It has been a tough week searching for housing in the Bay Area, but I now reside in Berkeley! Hooray!

I am leaving tonight! Tomorrow all the fun will start…. so much to do…. I am trying to feel confident about this move, but this morning my nerves kicked in. I feel better now that my suitcases are packed and I found my flight invoice! Now the long drive to the airport…

I found an excellent book at Border’s; a Newcomer’s Handbook for Moving to San Francisco and the Bay Area. It has given me a lot of reassurance, as it explains how to do lots of necessary procedures, gives descriptions of neighborhoods, and lists loads of resources.

I was feeling a little nervous until I remembered that I went through a similar situation years ago when I arrived in Santiago de Chile with nothing more than a hotel reservation and enrollment in University. I survived that, so…..

And anyway, WI is really really really cold now.

Well I am almost packed and am leaving Japan tomorrow! After about a week with my family in the wilderness, I will head out to the west coast….. yay!

I bought a map of California on Monday, to help me when applying for jobs and searching for apartments in the Bay Area.

My husband’s visa arrived today!

I am aiming for Fall 2005. My husband’s visa application is nearly complete…the job search has begun….I am mentally ready to leave Tokyo…. Only one person is against my moving back to the US; my niece worries that she won’t “get any more really cool presents.” Hmmm…
