get a pen-pal

From the German nurse! A very short letter, but it was a nice introduction. Now I must get off my butt and write back to her and poor Grimes, who is still waiting…Damn lists keeping me busy doing other things lol :)

Have just received a message from a guy called Grimes of all things!!! who is living in a refugee camp in Ghana with his 8 year old daughter. He included his postal address in his message, and I actually feel sad for him having to live in such a place with a small child (but not in a ‘I’ll pay for you to migrate here’ kind of way :)) And I got a message back from the German lady, saying she was happy to hear from me and will write to me!! No news yet from the Nepalese guy though. I will consider this goal complete when I get a reply to a letter I have written, therefore having established a writing relationship. But I have yet to decide how many penpals I actually want, and I really am hoping for a European of the age bracket I specified…

Yay! I’ve just received two messages from penpal international that weren’t from sport loving Nigerian toyboys! One is from a gentleman in Nepal, the other is from a lady in Germany (who is also a nurse like me – double score!!!) OK, both are a couple of years younger than I asked, but I wrote back saying I’d like to write to them anyway. I just hope that they still want to correspond when they see that I specifically requested contact by snail mail not email.

Trickier than I thought – you see I don’t have the nerve to actually contact someone and say “hey you wanna be penpals?” so I’m sitting back waiting for someone to contact me. Only problem is, the people contacting me obviously haven’t read my profile and just contact anyone and everyone. How do I know this? I am being contacted by 25 year old sport fanatics from Nigeria, when I requested 37yr+ from Germany and stated no interest in sport :)

I’m quite looking forward to this! I used to have a couple of penfriends from Italy and one in Korea when I was in high school, and I’m keen to write letters on paper again instead of on the internet. Sooo much more fun getting letters in the mailbox instead of inbox :)
