improve my drumming

On the 23rd of September the Metalvisie Songfestival has taken place, and we were one out of 14 groups that performed. Each band was allowed to play one song of their own and one song that was meant as spoof on the Eurovision Songfestival (where Lordi won). Aside from that I had troubles hearing the bass guitar as well as the lead guitar while playing drums and forgetting a part of the text I had to sing(!) people didn’t seem to mind at all and showed they had lots of fun.

All the groups showed a lot of creativity and crazyness, as you can see from the pictures of the event, and the winner was Goddess of Desire which I think is a fair thing, they made a very good dutch “Koos Alberts” alike song and had two beautiful girls walking around the stage showing the lyrics. I wonder if anyone actually cared reading them :) A thing that surprised me and had me baffled for a moment is that we were 2nd, with a narrow miss of beating GoD. I t felt as a warm welcome and that people appreciate what we’re doing. Thanks a lot to all the people who voted for NecroMorticA and supporting us!

When I look back at the evening I think that all the bands have shown their best, and we’ve also showed that it’s not all seriousness and things, but we also like the humor and ridiculing ourselves at times. It was a successful evening, and it attrackted a lot of people (the event was completely sold out!). I hope they had a good evening, well, I know I did :)

I will be the proud owner of a complete drumkit again this very evening. I’m bidding on an Ebay auction for a small drum kit, so I have more possibilities to practice at home. I hope I’ll win this bid or can arrange something with the seller outside of Ebay. It would be very convenient, since he lives in the same place so it will be very easy for me to pick up. Ok, crossing fingers now…

I received this picture from a fan of NecroMorticA, the group I play in, it felt heart warming, I am so happy I am a musician and can put what I feel into the music. The picture is highly motivating for me, thanks Inquisitive :-)

Yesterday NecroMorticA ’s band practice was a total disaster. First we found out that the concert where we should have played on the 15th of July has been cancelled by seeing it missing on the concert agenda. Second, in approximately 15 minutes practicing one of the snares of the bass guitar snapped, and the sound of the guitar amplifier was already broken… Lucky enough I didn’t destroy the base drum this time (I managed twice in 3 weeks once…). So our total practice time (including setting up things) was an approximate half hour.

To put it midly, I am very displeased with how The Underground handled things in this case. We were already busy designing our flyer and would have gone to print it this weekend (lucky enough I had little time to finish it all). The least form of common courtesy they could show was to mail or call us to say it has been cancelled (as of now I even don’t know why it is cancelled in the first place). I hope I soon will know of the reason so I can inform you as well, because I feel bad for the people who were already looking forward to the concert and arranged things in order to be able to attend. Although the blame is not on us, we feel very sorry for this disappointment.

At least the 23rd of September still stands (Metalvisie Songfestival) and I doubt wether they have the guts to cancel that one as well, because it doesn’t feel good to be lynched by 13 metal bands :-)

Yes! On the 15th of July NecroMorticA will perform at “The Underground” in Lelystad! There is no notion yet on the official website (http://www.goingunderground.nl), but nevertheless we got it confirmed already.

Tonight it’s practice time again in the studio and we’ll try to record some things, which I hope soon to put online.

In my free time I play in a black metal group called NecroMorticA on the drums. In March we had our first gig, and soon (I think May and June) we will have our next gigs. But I still think I’m not good enough, sometimes with blastbeats I get out of sync which is really irritating. At the moment we only have to opportunity to practice 3 hours in a week in a studio. My own drum kit is broken and at the moment I don’t have the finances to fix this, so I need to find some way how to train my muscles even if I can’t practice at home. For now I have a GyroTwister and some weights for arms and legs, I think it helps because I already improved considerably according to people around me…. Well, let’s see if I feel more confident on the next performance…
