read 15 books in 2009

I read this before East of Eden but forgot about it. This book was very good and very sad. I’m looking forward to the movie coming out.
I’m glad that the novel took place well after most of the humans were wiped out and it never really explained what happened. I didn’t want it to be a newly post-apocalyptic world.

I read this book a month or so ago. It was incredible. Very long but didn’t feel like it. Felt like THE book, as if nothing had to be written after it. I’d read it again and recommend it to everyone.

I thought this book was excellent but also depressing. I generally liked the main character, Ginny, the whole time, but I could see where she was weak. Yet, I was always hopeful she would finally do something for herself. I can’t decide if she ever accomplished that.
Everything that happened in the book was terrible! It kind of a had slow start, but I was never uninterested.
I am really impressed with Jane Smiley, and I wonder where a writer finds it in herself to do these things to people and know exactly how they should react and what they should think and say.
