hug a stranger

I hugged a stranger today. She looked like she’d had a bad day and when I voiced that and said I hoped if that was the case that her day got better she came over, introduced herself, and let me give her a hug. I am really bad about thinking something like “that person looks like they’ve had a bad day” and not going past that, but I decided today I should say something because it could make a difference, sometimes a big difference. So I did and it worked out really well. I would highly recommend this to anyone that has it as one of their “things”.

Ok, I’ve actually had one incident when it was not worth it, I didn’t have much choice though because I didn’t know what the creep was going to do if I didn’t, it was kind of scary, but turned out ok. But apart from that exception, hugging a stranger is worth it. Remember, your usually a stranger to whoever your hugging too. But if you see someone who looks like they are having the worst of days and are crying and what not, a hug and some words of encouragement can make all the difference. I’ve also found that telling them you’ll pray for them, even if they don’t believe in God, helps, because it shows them that even though you don’t know them, you still find it in your heart to care. Don’t get me wrong, be cautious if you do this, you never know what people will do these days. Be sure and ask if its ok with them first. If they say yeah, hug away, if they say no, respect their wishes! Oh yeah, it’s also pretty cool to hug someone famous… like when I met Howard Jones! lol. :-)
