I am low in iron, so my specialist recommended I get some iron tablets. I asked at the pharmacist’s and he replied with “why do you want them?”, which I thought was bizarre since anyone can buy iron tablets and since I am 8 months pregnant it should be obvious.

Next he recommended some with folic acid in them too. I asked for some without folic acid, as I already get a big dose of that in my vitamin. He told me it wouldn’t be in my vitamin. I told him it was, as it was a prenatal vitamin and folic acid is the only vitamin shown to benefit pregnant women. AND if I took my vitamin and the iron tablet he was suggesting I would exceed the recommended dose. He didn’t say anything and obviously had no idea about anything so I bought the only ones he told me about and now can’t take my vitamins.

For two reasons:

1. I am pregnant and almost fainted once a couple of weeks ago (very embaressing!), which I think was due to low blood pressure and therefore wouldn’t have happened if I was more hydrated. It was on a day that I was in the lab alot (can’t drink in there) so it takes more of an effort than just having a big bottle of H20 on your desk.

2. Vitamins haven’t been shown to be beneficial when your pregnant (except for folic acid, which I had). I eat a balanced diet, but want a bit of extra help now that I am in the final three months.
