In the last 2 weeks I’ve gotten free tickets to:
Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!
Honkfest finale blow out show
Aretha Franklin at the Wang
YAY for freebies!
Also attended honkfest most of saturday afternoon (6 stages of bands rotating every hour) + the parade to Oktoberfest on Sunday before the concert show… Friday went to see Ronald Brown dance performance at the ICA. Still talented performers but definitely my least favorite of the ones we’ve seen there… just felt kind of repetitive and not all that original. This Friday going to see Streb there though, and I’m excited about that…
Just bought tix for 3 more dance performances at the ICA- 2 in October, 1 in November… always a good time.
Ronald K Brown/Evidence
Streb:Brave
Trey McIntyre Project
Eastern European style complete with fiddle, accordion, tuba, trumpet. A good time was had by all.
Awesome, touching show, obnoxious annoying people there though… I’d totally go see him again in Boston next month if I have a paycheck. I’d also recommend the devil and daniel johnston film to just about anyone.
At the Calvin theater. Awesome. Made me proud to be a social worker to boot!
Bought my tix for st vincent (aug 6) and the breeders (aug 17)... hopefully some more dance in the fall.
Wilbur Theater with Mel and her friends. We were general admission down front, so were about 5 feet away from the band—great for the visuals and the ears, not so good for my poor fucked up orthoticless feet. Played a lot off Beware, the new album, and didn’t play Break of Day or May it Always Be (2 of my favorites), but oh well. Great show anyway.
Still very good, but not my favorite we’ve seen. The first piece (Jack in the Box) had a kind of Catholic school theme- a lot of conformity and order and repression mixed with aggression and sexuality. A lot of awesome highly synchronized fast numbers. Second piece Rossini’s Cards was slower, less impressive I thought.
Awesome! Played 4 Smiths songs which I was surprised about, and I actually knew/recognized quite a few of the rest from the burned CD’s Aaron gave me for schooling. At one point swabbed off his sweaty chest with a shirt and tossed it into the shrieking, seething crowd. A good time was had by all. Except for my feet that is.
