I’ve been eating meat for awhile now. I even used my slight anemia as an excuse. Pathetic. I am slowly improving my diet though and eating more and more vegetables on the whole. Going to put this goal on pause until I feel prepared and alert enough to really recommit.

It’s now been over two months since I’ve eaten meat and I feel pretty good. I’m trying to avoid junkitarianism right now. My friends and I are having Thanksgiving together, with my friend Kat making a Tofurky and I’ve been charged with bringing vegan pecan pie. I’m very excited.
One month strong and the thought of meat still makes me cringe. There have been a couple of close calls out of habit, but I caught myself. I feel better internally, more clean, less weighed down. I’ve also been eating less, trying to only eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full, so I’m sure that’s part of it. Eleven more months and I can check this off my list!
So this will be the third or fourth time I attempt this. My longest stretch is five months without meat. I always end up moving in with a carnivorous boyfriend, or becoming broke and thereby less choosy, or not eating well at all and subsisting on coke and potato chips. However, living in south Austin and having hippie friends has reminded me how much I really want to be meat-free. I’m also trying to exercise, do some yoga, meditate, buy quality food, spend time with friends as part of a wellness paradigm shift. A couple of friends and I are even planning a cleansing fast, since we’ve all been naughty lately.
Anyways, when I haven’t eaten meat in a year, I’ll feel worthy of the title vegetarian. I’ve been a little loose with it in the past, which I feel detracts from people with the morals and the discipline to stick to it. Until then, I’ll just tell people I’m “taking a break from meat”.
