Just a few years ago I despised electronic music. I thought it pointless and repetitive. I then started dating a trance DJ and, after a short period, moved in with him. Needless to say, I heard it all day and night long. I started to develop a grudging liking and an appreciation for it. However, after my first rave, I fell in love. It clicked for me. Since then, I’ve found that some of the most profound and beautiful pieces of art are techno tracks.
I have all these ideas for sets that I’d really like to see expressed, but it’s hard to verbally communicate what I’m looking for. Now, I’m not aspiring to Sandra Collins, or even DJ Pollywog status. I’d just like to be able to show an actual DJ what I’m talking about when I describe my idea, so that they could run with it and express it fully.
This goal will probably be a long time in the making, as I am no longer dating the DJ and indeed, live several hours away, and am no longer able to take advantage of his expertise or equipment. Which means buying some cheap stuff and a reasonable record collection for myself and sorting it out as I go.
