get the apartment to where it feels like home by the end of the semeseter

Time to go to Hobby Lobby and buy a cheap shelf. Hopefully it’ll be sanded so I can throw some contact paper on it for the time being. When it gets warmer I’ll work on staining or painting it.

Ok…home…is a messy, messy place, but it’s wonderful!

I’m going to wait until we get a light for the living room and a shelf for the kitchen to mark this goal off, but I think I have a home!

My roommate has a goal that I completely support, even though it might be at odds with this one. She’s going to unpack her boxes completely for the first time since she came to college. And then she’s going to sort it all out like I’ve been doing for the past two years. Ambitious!

She’s asked for a few pointers and half of the living room floor. She has both. I’m kind of interested to see what she’s had stashed away, but carried around for the past four years!

I may be boxing up or sharing with the Egman some of my kitchen stuff, as the roomie has a lot of very nice doubles of things I have. Which means our cupboards are CROWDED! We’ll work it out at some point…nothing’s really in the way or in danger of being broken, so we’re okay for now.

She’s moving in today. It’s going to be a strange day I think, but it’ll all work itself out back to normal by the end of this week. We’re going to try to have a short party tonight handing out Halloween candy, but only if she can get most of her stuff up to her room by then. I’ll help her move it into the house, but she’s the only one who can put it where she wants it.

I think after we’re done with all of the commotion of moving and reorganizing the kitchen, I’ll be hanging up art and posters to hide the imperfections in the paint job downstairs.

I just had a PhD student move in!! I switched to one of the smaller rooms because I have a loft and therefore can fit more stuff into it than he can. Plus, then he being the only guy can have his own bathroom. I’ve got a senior asking after the other room, so hopefully she’ll move in soon, too!

And today my mom came down and we made and hung curtains!!! Also hung up calendars, posters, and dry erase/tack boards. And now I have a loveseat so I can actually offer people a place to sit other than my coffee table! It’s starting to feel like home already!

Tomorrow’s project: refinishing the coffee table! It’s going to be blue and silver like the curtains!

The apartment is very lonely without roommates. My sister’s driving down to help me sew curtains on Friday, but until then I’m going to be lurking around campus trying to find internet and people I know.

I need to find something really distracting to work on while I can’t hang out with my friends, so I don’t get too lonely.

This now includes finding a roommate.

My friend found a full time job in another city, and it’s much too good an opportunity to give up, so we need to find another roomie fast!

This….will be interesting. We no longer have a couch.
