Do something new every month

Yeah...done  — 1 year ago

I was just thinking of all the things I’ve got planned for the coming months, and all the things that I don’t know about but that will probably happen. (I have fairly spontaneous friends…something will come up if I don’t find my own amusement.)

So I don’t see this as a goal anymore; it is my life. Done. :)

Plotting to add a few new things this month  — 1 year ago

Well, they’re not new, but I’ve not done them in years. Corbit and I are planning to go to a haunted house next weekend, and a cornfield maze the weekend after that—they even have hayrides! And bonfires! And s’mores! (Weenie roast, too, but of course I’ll skip that part.) I just hope he kicks his cold in time for us to go…he was feeling pretty crappy today.

It just occurred to me that I’ve failed to add the other new thing I’m doing this month…visiting Savannah. The next few weeks are going to be incredibly eventful!

Turn coconut into charcoal  — 1 year ago

Completely unintentional, of course. And I did manage to toast some coconut in a skillet (I fear the broiler now). Plus I managed to get the smoke under control before the smoke alarm went off.

Actually, this month’s new thing is stretching my baking repetoire. Since both parents’ birthdays are coming up (Dad’s is Nov 3…close enough), and I have all these baking recipes I want to try, I figured it’d be a good goal for this month. Today is coconut bread. I’ve got a marble swirl pound cake and an almond cake recipe picked out for the birthdays, and a cheese straw recipe that I want to try. Let’s hope they go more smoothly than the coconut toasting!

Probably the weirdest new thing I will ever do  — 1 year ago

Saturday I’m helping my ex-fiance pack his stuff up and move it into storage. (He will not be moving in with me, incidentally. He’s going to stay with his parents. Which is even more deja vu, as that’s where I ended up when he dumped me.) Mostly I’m just serving as moral support, as the packing is part of his breaking up with his current fiancee.

That is weird on all kinds of levels. Here’s hoping next month’s new thing is more fun…

mmm  — 1 year ago

I just made cheese straws—successfully this time. So I’m counting that as new. And oh, are they good… :)

This is getting easier  — 1 year ago

I think, however, I should start making a list of the new things I want/need to do. Spontaneous new things are fun and all, but lack the satisfaction of crossing a goal off a list.

I’m actually doing way better at this than I thought. Of course, not all the new things I’m doing are necessarily good…drum lessons = fun; physical therapy = not at all fun. But I’m making it a point to get out and meet people, and not automatically say no when they suggest something. So in the past three weeks alone, I’ve done somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 new things. Guess I can take the rest of the year off… ::grins::
