i began the first few days of february writing a poem at the end of each day. didn’t last long.
but still, i’ve been writing poetry more often.
wrote one i particularly liked the other day, called “Open Hours.”

just wrote a poem about the day.
might be a good way to end every day.
we’ll see.
i found the info on the contest i want to enter. the manuscript has to be 50-80 pages. and the deadline is probably in october. so i have time. they don’t have info for this year’s contest up yet, but they had it for last year’s, so i’m going off of that.
i wonder how many poems (post-high school) i have written. i wonder if it’s 50.
in any case, even if i’ve already written 50, i certainly wouldn’t submit them all to be published. some are better than others, of course.
what’s clear: i need to write more new poems.
yesterday i started a Word document called “manuscript.”
my goal is to compile all my old poems and add new ones as well… at least 40 poems. because i think this is the minimum amount for a publishing contest i want to enter.
i wrote a poem yesterday about driving over the bridge with an absolutely amazing sky full of clouds. crossing the george has never felt so epic.
i need to revise it though… definitely not in full form yet.
i need to write on my own more often. i’ve got a bunch of poems i’m proud of, but these were mostly written for classes. ah, the motivation of assignments that must be done.
