Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev

I loved this book. I started it by chance forever ago and only just recently picked it up to finish. I have to say what beautiful literature has been produced by Russian authors. I recently saw the movie Doctor Zhivago and feel in love. It is very romantic without the cheesy factor of most american films. I think that may be what differentiates the Russian works I have read. The authors portray the ugliness of love and love seems all the more potent for it. I thought Romeo and Juliet to be a pretty B grade love story, writing beautiful, content ehh… Star-crossed lovers are the most moving when the conflict is “man versus self.” Bless the romantics who with stain from idealism.

Dracula

Finished this! I have to say it was not my favorite. It was entertaining, but would not recommend putting at the top of your list.

Henry James

Earlier I finished The Turn Of The Screw and In the Cage. The Turn of the Screw was required for English Class. If you read pay attentions to the illusions it was really interesting.

Alice In Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass

I read that a while back, when I wasn’t updating. I was a little disappointed. i was expecting something greater because of all the hype it gets. That being said, I am reading it as an adult instead of a child.

Rant

Read this in two days. I bought it for vacation to Tulum, Mexico, and finished it before I left. I actually really like Chuck Palahnuk. He has a bit of a cult following, and I have really wanted to start reading his work. I gave it to my mother an she found it to be a bit crass, which I would agree. His vision is amazing though.

Brave New World

I have read quite a few books since my last posting. One book I feel actually applies to this goal though is this one. I loved it. It was a great satirical science fiction take on our future utopia. I want read a bunch more of his work. Dracula is one that I am currently reading off my phone. I will post about some of the other books I have accomplished soon… I hope.

Finished The Awakening by Kate Chopin

Really quite good. It is shocking it was so controversial when it first came out. Something I would expect to find on reading lists about women’s impact on literature.

Accomplised Two More Tallies

I finished 1984 which was great right up until the end and Wuthering Heights which I loved, but wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I thought the love story element would be stronger and the ghost story element was not expected. I supposed Jane austin had colored my view of early female English writers.

Pride and Prejudice

Finished it for a class and am currently reading 1984 for pleasure. I have read Pride and Prejudice about five time now! I am loving 1984 and it’s social commentary. I think Orwell has a dramatic streak in him, but it make for his fiction to be more entertaining.

Hamlet

Finished for my World Literature class. Five of Shakespeare’s works finished! It was one of my favorite, but women were not treated very well in it.
