Apparently the Harry Potter series was added to the list since the last time I looked. I’ve read all of those books, and I recently finished The Pigman. 12% complete.

You can laugh and cry with this book. It’s awesome, even though you want Gilly to go back to Trotter and she can’t. I really liked it.
I loved this book when I was little and I still loved it. Who didn’t feel like this as a young woman worried about what everyone was thinking?
I’ve already read some of the books. My list so far includes:
Of Mice and Men
The Giver
The Color Purple
Flowers for Algernon
The Boy Who Lost His Face
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Lord of the Flies
Bless Me, Ultima
Song of Solomon
Good book. Maybe not for a younger child who would not get the moral and only see the violence.
Short but powerful. I wish I had read this in an English class so that we could have done an analysis.
www.listofbests.com already has a list of the ALA books, along with hundreds of other book lists. I decided to use that to track the books I read. I also decided that I would not make myself re-read all the books. Some of them I remember very well. Not that I can’t re-read them, but I don’t have to if I don’t want to.
So I’m really working hard on all the Oprah Book Club books, mostly because they are abundant on PaperBackSwap and BookMooch and because I already have a large stack of them waiting. But some are in the Oprah list and the ALA list and I can kill two birds. The problem comes in the items on the list that I read “way” back. Do I read them again or mark them as complete? I’ll have a long time to think about it since I so have a large list of books to read ahead of a lot of these. It probably doesn’t make a difference, but sometimes I like re-reading books. Especially those that you had to read in school. They are usually much more fun when you don’t have to do a character study.
