Sapphire – Push

I read this because I really wanted to see the movie Precious (which I still haven’t done yet). It was different than I expected. The book is written from Precious’ point of view, using her own spelling and grammar. And there are many more problems in her life than I expected. I think it sort of lacks a main plot but the book surely has a main point.

Kidd, Sue Monk – The Secret Life of Bees

Amazing book! Unique, meaningful story line with a lovable protagonist.

Picoult, Jodi – My Sister’s Keeper

I loved this book. It is an inspiring novel about a girl with leukemia and a genetically-identical sister who was conceived specifically to save her. However, the sister files a lawsuit against her mother, for the rights to her own body. The mother in the story is so persistent, perseverant, and strong. She has inspired me to fight through my own struggles with more effort than ever.

Sounds of the River – Da Chen

Not exactly a page-turner. But it was alright. I learned a lot about Chinese culture so that was cool.

Anyway, it’s about an Asian farmer boy, who just got accepted to a university in Beijing. He goes through a lot of trials and tribulations, trying to achieve his dream of going abroad to the U.S.A. His story is unique, but not always exciting, I must admit.

this might be a toughie.
I’ve only read 9 books and we’re halfway into September!
I have another in progress…it’s pretty boring though.

AHHH well, I’ll have to catch up in my free time.

J.K. Rowling – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

I mean, what else can I say. Loved it. Favorite book series ever.

How to Survive Your Freshman Year by Hundreds of Heads

A very helpful book of advice for soon-to-be college freshmen. I thought it was funny and really useful. I finished it in about four days because it was so good :) And I think I’m going to have to re-read it at least once before I leave for school.

Brian, Kate – Private

Sophomore Reed Brennan gets to go to the private school of her dreams. At first, she’s just grateful to be away from her pill-popping mother and boring hometown. But then, she meets the Billings girls – the most popular, mysterious, beautiful girls in school. Instantly, Reed is intrigued, and wants to know more. But eventually, Reed acquires a little more knowledge than she’s ready to handle.

Haddix, Margaret Petersen – Takeoffs and Landings

This book is about a family that is falling apart. After their father died, siblings Lori and Chuck are different. They aren’t best friends anymore. They become distant. And their mom is no help. She’s always traveling around, speaking for crowds about her struggle. In other words, she’s never home, and has lost connection with her children.
So she offers to take them on a trip. It’s a little rough at first (no pun intended) but it is an interesting story enough.

It is light, I must say. A teen read. But I still liked it overall.
