start my own business

I received my company’s first “teaming agreement” yesterday; that’s a contract to work jointly on staffing of a project. I’m having it reviewed by a legal authority on Monday, and then we’re off to the races. No contract yet, but this is the prelude to one.

We filled in some forms at the doctor’s just recently listing my company as my employer; what an amazing, strange feeling.

I’m going to call this one done. Obviously it’s only the start, but I think it’s a very good start.

My first business lunch is coming up next week – meeting to discuss the possibility of a partnership with another company to fulfill contract requirements. I’ll be there representing my company. Hittin’ the big time!

The company is now incorporated, the IRS has been phoned (those I still have some forms to file), an accountant has been found, and the bank account is up and running. I’m still not going to count this as done until I have my first contract, however…but hey, progress.

The incorporation papers were returned because they somehow lost the check…we sent them right back, hand-carried in the check, and at the same time, got the corporate bylaws back from the lawyer with a clean bill of legality. It’s really happening…

I’ve filed for incorporation. It’s really happening!

It looks like the other guy is going to go out on his own; we discussed it and it wasn’t a good fit. So, back to the original plan, and no time or money lost. Probably better this way; I get to keep my independence…besides, we’ve discussed mutual referrals, and teaming up to purchase health insurance for a lower rate.

A friend of mine just described to me that he was meeting with his accountant and lawyer in order to discuss incorporation…we’re going to be talking soon. I may have myself a partner…

The lead tech at my current job has quit, so I’ve got extra duties now. I’m thinking that this should indeed light the fire I need to make the leap.

It looks like by the middle of May, I’ll have enough to put towards incorporation fees. This is indeed moving forward.

Working now has given me more and more ideas for my own business, and I keep my laptop in my cube and write them down when they come to me. Sometimes they are things that the company I work for is doing that I want to make sure I do, too; more often, I have my ideas for improving things or doing them a different way. I’m looking at working independently in the next two years, though the company will certainly be started before then…
