I moved into my current apartment over a year ago. Shortly after getting settled, I noticed that one of the light switch tabs - next to the back door from the garage into the lower level - pointed the wrong direction. Typically, tab down equals light off. The switch controls an overhead bulb in the garage. The light fixture has a chain. I was perplexed as to why the tab in the up position turns the light off. I thought maybe the chain on the fixture needed to be at a different click. Not. I sensed that I was missing something, because I didn’t remember this always being the case. Yet, I gave up because I didn’t trust myself. I was bothered by the switch every time I passed. I thought I was being anal about wanting the tab in the traditional position.
Cleaning the garage today… sweeping out the road grime that has dripped off my truck… I noticed another light switch at the front of the garage in the corner. Doh! This is a partner switch. This switch was out of sync with the one by the back door. I feel relieved now. Note to self: listen to intuition.
